Low Purine Level Diets Helpful For Urate Urolithiasis

Dalmatians have a genetic predisposition to Urate Urolithiasis from high levels of urate salts in their urine. To reduce the likelihood of potential Urate Urolithiasis developing, preventative measures include feeding a diet which is low in purines, which promotes alkaline urine and always ensuring that fresh, clean water is available.

We recommend the following diets, which may help -

Suitable Diets For Hyperactive Dogs

Hyperactive behaviour can sometimes be associated with a dogs diet.

It's important that dogs should be fed the correct diet for their life stage. If your adult dog is fed a diet for a puppy or working dog then they are likely to be getting too much protein and energy, possibly causing hyperactivity. Senior dogs on an adult diet may also be affected in the same way.

Sugar can also cause peaks in your dogs blood sugar which can cause hyperactivbehaviour. Choosing treats which do not contain sugar and avoiding giving your dog unhealthy human food could reduce this hyperactive behaviour. Some sensitive dogs can also have the same peaking blood sugar reaction from carbohydrates like cereals and grains.

In this instance, we would advise that a diet from our Gourmet Grain Free range, was fed.

The following would also be suitable -

Helpful Diets For Diabetic Dogs

Dogs 🐶

The Gourmet Grain Free, Natural & Hypoallergenic and Hypoallergenic Premium ranges may all help with diabetes as none contain sugar, which may cause peaks in their blood sugar levels. The ranges are complete diets of the highest quality and are well balanced, so would be suitable for a diabetic dog if fed correctly alongside insulin.

When dogs have Diabetes, staying trim is key. If your dog is overweight, losing some pounds can help their cells better use insulin, a hormone that keeps blood sugar levels in check. That makes it easier for their body to turn food into fuel.

The goal is to keep blood sugar (or glucose) levels as close to normal as possible. This helps your dog feel good and makes it less likely they'll get diabetes-related complications, such as vision-clouding cataracts and urinary tract infections.

In this instance, it's better to choose one of our low fat dog foods which are also lower in calories.

Low Calorie Diets For Overweight Dogs

The following diets are all formulated to contain fewer calories to aid weight loss whilst still being complete and well balanced.

Delicious Diets For Underweight Dogs

The most suitable diets would include the Gourmet Grain Free and Natural & Hypollergenic ranges. Both of these ranges are very easy to digest and extremely appetising. All are formulated, with the inclusion of freshly prepared meat, which dogs find extremely appetising.

The following diets are also suitable from the Hypoallergenic Premium range -

* You can do some of the following for additional encouragement -

  • Scatter (ideally plain) shredded chicken or a small amount of scrambled eggs into the dry food (kibble) and mix it all up.
  • Add a tablespoon of low-sodium chicken broth (bouillon) to the dry food.(ensure the broth doesn't have onions in it because they are toxic) and give it a good stir.

Energy Rich Diets For Pregnant & Lactating Dogs

During pregnancy and lactation, your dog/cat has much higher maintenance requirements and needs a high quality, highly digestible, energy dense food to meet these added nutritional requirements.
We feel that our puppy and kitten diets are most suitable, as these are energy dense, very appetising and easy to digest.
It is recommended that this switch takes place approximately 2 weeks before breeding to allow the pregnant dog or cat to be accustomed to the new diet and is continued throughout pregnancy and lactation.

Excellent For Symptoms Of Colitis

The following diets can be suitable due to being;

  • Low in fat
  • Easier to digest
  • Free from added sugar or sweeteners
  • Free from artificial preservatives, colours or flavours
  • Free from corn, dairy or pork

*Remember to provide plenty of fresh, clean water to avoid dehydration. It may even be more beneficial to add some warm water to our food to make the diet a little more liquid based. Make sure your dog only eats when you feed him and that he doesn't ingest non-food items that can cause additional irritation in the intestinal tract.
